Suicide among First RespondersIn 2016 the national rate for police suicides dropped to 12/100,000, compared to a public rate of 13/100,000. It is believed the rate for officers should, nonetheless, still be much lower given the background checks that officers go through during the hiring process and the resultant good mental health at time of entry. The reduction of suicides in both 2012 and 2016 can likely be attributed to the increasingly aggressive application of mental health programs, suicide prevention training, peer support and chaplaincy programs. This is why we do what we do. Training saves lives!

proof of principleFrom 2010 to 2015 AFM trainers were embedded in the 4th BDE 94th Division USAR with responsibility for intervention training of soldiers in a command covering 10 states. During that time the team sustained a ZERO suicide rate at at a time when the suicide rate among military personnel was 200% higher than the general public.
As a result of the success one of the team members was called up to a Command staff with a 40 state footprint that had experienced a 575% higher rate of suicide than the general public. Training Saves Lives!

"Armed Forces Mission is a great community partner to the Peachtree City Police Department. We have been able to send several officers to the “I will Intervene” workshops where they have gained skills needed to assist people in crisis in our community. The skills learned through the workshops supplements what officers learn through the Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). Because of the efforts of AFM our officers are better equipped to recognize and respond to someone that is considering suicide."
